EEP (Eastern European Photography) ist eine Fotografie-Plattform mit Sitz in Berlin und Hamburg, die sich auf experimentelle visuelle Praktiken in Osteuropa konzentriert.
Das EEP Magazin ist die erste Fotografiezeitschrift, die sich ausschließlich mit der Kunst- und Fotografieszene Osteuropas befasst. Der Schwerpunkt des Magazins liegt auf der Entdeckung verborgener Nuancen, Dialoge und Kontraste in den Werken aufstrebender und etablierter bildender Künstler und Fotografen aus den Ländern Osteuropas. Das Team um das Magazin erforscht die Absurdität osteuropäischer Erfahrungen, wie sie von Generationen von Künstlern durchlebt wurde, die in ihren Arbeiten kontinuierlich über Themen im Zusammenhang mit abrupten gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen, Krieg, Migration und komplexer Familiengeschichte, vor dem Hintergrund sich gegenseitig ausschließender kultureller Hinterlassenschaften und politischer Systeme, reflektiert haben.
Maya Hristova ist Gründerin von EEP Berlin und Chefredakteurin des EEP Magazins.
Maya schloss 2014 ihr Studium der Fotografie an der Ostkreuzschule in Berlin bei Prof. Ute Mahler ab und arbeitet seither als freie Kuratorin und Fotografin.
Jewgeni Roppel ist Kurator und Bildredakteur bei EEP Berlin.
Jewgeni studierte Fotografie und Medien (M.A.) an der Fachhochschule Bielefeld (2011-2015). Als Fotograf arbeitet er für diverse Magazine. Von 2014 bis 2020 initiierte und leitete er OSTLOOK, eine Plattform für zeitgenössische Fotografie aus Osteuropa. Seit 2020 ist er Teil von EEP Berlin und initiiert, neben der kuratorischen und redaktionellen Arbeit bei EEP, eigene Projekte im osteuropäischen Raum.

In the second part of the evening of FOTOTREFF #33, Maya Hristova and Jewgeni Roppel will speak about the activities EEP Berlin. The founder and the curator of EEP will present their magazine eep Vol.1 as well as share insights into their long-term commitment to promote and highlight photography from the countries of Eastern Europe in Germany.
EEP (Eastern European Photography) is a photography platform that focuses on experimental visual practices in Eastern Europe.
The EEP Magazine is the first photography journal dedicated to the art and photography scenes in Eastern Europe. Its focus lies in uncovering the hidden nuances, dialogues, and contrasts in the works of emerging and established visual artists and photographers from the countries of Eastern Europe. The team around the magazine explores the absurdity of the Eastern European experiences as endured by generations of artists who continuously have reflected on topics related to abrupt social changes, war, migration, and complex family history juxtaposed against the background of mutually exclusive cultural legacies and political systems.
Maya Hristova is the founder of EEP Berlin and editor-in-chief of the EEP Magazine.
Maya completed her studies in Photography at the Ostkreuzschule in Berlin with Prof. Ute Mahler in 2014 and has since then worked as an independent curator and photographer.
Jewgeni Roppel is a photographer and the founder of the OSTLOOK Platform for contemporary photography from Eastern Europe (2014- 2020). Since 2020, he is part of EEP Berlin as a curator and editor. Jewgeni holds an M.A. in Photography and Media from the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld. Besides his curatorial work for EEP Berlin, he works as an editorial photographer for diverse magazines as well as on long-term projects in Eastern European countries.
